Hi everybody!
Can you believe it’s already August? It’s officially summer holidays and we’re here to help our students get everything you can out of them! Whether you're looking to chill out, have fun, or keep your brain turned on, we've got some awesome suggestions for you. Plus, we asked YOU for your ideas, tips, and plans, so you know these are tried and tested!
rest and relaxation
First things first—summer is all about taking a break and relaxing. Here’s how you can do it right:
Sleep in: It’s okay to catch up on sleep. Without the early morning rush to school, take this chance to sleep a little longer and recharge.
Visit with friends and people that make you happy: Spend quality time with your loved ones. Plan a picnic, have a movie marathon, or just hang out in the garden.
Go outdoors: Fresh air and sunshine are great for relaxation. Go for a walk, ride your bike, or visit the beach or park.
“I listen to music in the park by my house when it is sunny, it makes me feel relaxed.”
fun activities
Summer is the perfect time to try something new. Here are some fun activities to consider:
Learn a new hobby: Practice painting, cooking, or a new sport, summer is a great time to pick up a new hobby.
Explore local attractions: Visit museums, zoos, or local landmarks. Sometimes we forget the cool stuff that’s right in our own backyard!
Plan a day trip: Go on a mini-adventure to a nearby town or nature spot. It’s a great way to break the routine and explore new places.
things to do in West Sussex
Some top things to do in West Sussex:
South Downs National Park: Perfect for hiking, picnics, and enjoying stunning views. It’s a great way to get some fresh air and exercise.
Arundel Castle: Step back in time and explore this historic castle. The gardens are beautiful, and there are often special events and activities.
West Wittering Beach: Spend a day at this lovely beach. It’s great for swimming, sunbathing, or just relaxing with a good book.
Weald and Downland Living Museum: Discover the history of rural life with interactive exhibits and beautiful grounds.
“Being outside is good for you. I did some natural walks and hiking and I felt happy.”
keep your brain ticking
While it’s important to relax, it’s also good to keep your brain engaged. Here’s how you can do that without it feeling like schoolwork:
Listen to podcasts: Podcasts are like radio, but you can choose what you listen to! Here are a couple of great podcasts from the BBC that are designed to help you learn and keep up your English. You can follow along by reading what is being said or just listen:
Practice on an app: If you want to keep up your English, try practicing it in real-life situations or using apps like Duolingo. It’s fun and super effective! There are also apps for practicing maths in a way that feels like a game.
Play games: Use apps that turn learning into a game; there are tons of apps that make learning fun.
Memrise: https://www.memrise.com/ (online or app)
4. Reading fiction books: Books that are entertaining are a great way to keep improving your English functional skills over the summer.
bonus tips from YOU
Join a club or group: Play a sport like football or badminton or join a Youth Ambassador program.
Volunteer: Spend your time helping people or learning new skills. Some young people at asphaleia volunteer at their local charity shop, with animals, or with people in need.
Create a routine: “I set aside time each day for different activities—some for fun, some for learning. It helps keep the days balanced.”
So, there you have it! A mix of relaxation, fun, and a bit of learning to keep your summer holidays awesome. Enjoy the rest of your summer, and make the most of every moment!
Happy holidays!
