Supported accommodation plays a critical role in helping young people build stability, confidence, and independence. With Ofsted now overseeing this sector, providers are expected to work to a clear set of principles that define what good care looks like and how young people should be supported. These principles set the tone for safe environments, consistent support, and strong relationships.

ofsted key principle two; my voice is respected, heard and advocated for, so I can influence the support I receive

This isn’t just a statement—it’s a commitment to ensuring that young people are active participants in their own journey. When your voice is truly valued, decisions aren’t made for you, they’re made with you. It means having the confidence that your opinions, experiences, and aspirations will guide the support you receive, and that someone will stand beside you to make sure those views are championed.

what we have in place at asphaleia care

In our supported accommodation properties we have created opportunities for young people to have their voices heard:

  • Feedback cycle – we collect feedback at key moments in a young person's journey with us. When they move in, midway, and when they leave, along with a quarterly survey to all service users to ask for feedback.

  • Our designated safeguarding lead delivers safeguarding forums with young people to gain their in-person feedback on safety at asphaleia.

  • Our Safeguarding Lead runs interactive safeguarding workshops with young people.

  • Our routine monthly house meetings and weekly keywork allow young people to share views on the home environment and the support they're receiving, as well as any challenges they're facing. These meetings invite feedback outside of the feedback cycle referred to already.

  • We offer roles for young people to take up, including Young Ambassador and Co-Inspector. These voluntary roles allow young people to share their and other young people's views and impact our services.

  • Our website specifically for service users, called The Youth Media, is a place young people can submit feedback, share their own stories or creative projects, and participate.

  • Service users are supported to have regular reviews with the local authority and asphaleia staff so they can discuss their placement.

  • We have a specific email inbox dedicated to receiving suggestions and ideas from young people in our services.

As with all of the key principles from Ofsted, we are constantly working to develop our services and we regularly gather and respond to feedback from our service users.
