At the heart of our work with young people is a simple belief: think their world. Everyone deserves to feel welcomed, understood, and supported from the very start. For many of the young people who join our supported accommodation services, English isn’t their first language, and we know that navigating new systems, services, and expectations can feel overwhelming when information isn’t easily accessible.

That’s why we’re excited to share that we’ve now created translated versions of our Welcome Guide for young people.

why a translated welcome guide matters

When a young person joins us, we want them to feel confident, informed, and empowered. The Welcome Guide plays a big role in that as it explains who we are, what we do, and how we can support them. But if the language doesn’t feel familiar or comfortable, that information doesn’t always land in the way we intend.

By offering a translated version, we’re taking a genuine step toward:

• Reducing anxiety and confusion for young people who are new to the UK or navigating multiple languages.

• Ensuring fairness, so everyone has the same opportunity to access clear, accurate information.

• Creating a more inclusive environment, where young people feel seen, respected, and valued.

The translated guide is a simplified version of the original, covering all the essentials a young person needs when they first move in to our one of our properties. It includes:

• A warm welcome

• An introduction to who we are

• What they can expect from us

• An invitation for them to share their views and feedback at any time

• Introduction to shared living and expectations

• Helpful information on finance, education, and health

• Access to advocacy

• Amharic

• Arabic

• Dari

• Kurdish Sorani

• Pashto

• Somali

• Vietnamese

• Tigrinya

The Welcome Guide forms part of the initial induction meeting, which includes an interpreter, so we can ensure any parts that are lost in translation are communicated clearly in person.
