Earlier this year, asphaleia's HR Director delivered supervision training to our service coordinators, who lead our supported accommodation services. The training comprised of three sessions that were held across three months.

“Supervision: is a process by which one worker is given responsibility by the organisation to work with another worker in order to meet certain organisational, professional and personal objectives which together promote the best outcomes for service users”
Morrison T 2005 (Practice researcher)
A person with a bun and striped shirt smiles widely, holding a white mug in a cozy cafe setting, engaging with another person. Warm atmosphere.

what did the training cover?

The three sessions covered the following topics: policy, getting the most out of your team, and practice and logistics. Within those sessions, the training provided input on the following areas, and more:

  1. asphaleia's supervision policy

  2. Preparation

  3. Content and structure

  4. Vision for managing and developing people

  5. What good supervision looks like

  6. Qualities of a good supervisor

  7. Conversation skills

Staff fed back after the sessions that they felt better equipped to support their teams and deliver effective supervision.

"The training was comprehensive, and I enjoyed learning about the different ways supervision can support the development of the individual, the team and the service." Service Coordinator

"[The training] helped me understand the importance of supervision and how to deliver it well." Service Coordinator
