Recently, asphaleia care held development days for staff working across our West Sussex and Brighton services. The first was for Semi-Independent Accommodation services and covered the theme of consistency, looking at:

  • Service standards and expectations

  • Benefits and housing

  • Transitional safeguarding relating to the care cliff

  • Keeping services going for care leavers

Seven people in a small room enjoy sandwiches and snacks. A table with plates is in front. The mood appears friendly and relaxed.

The other development day was for staff working with UASC young people. The theme was ‘transitioning and voice of the young person’. The day included sessions on:

  • Data and feedback for the last quarter April – June across services

  • Transitioning to the UK and British life

  • Trauma-informed environments

  • A case study discussion knowledge capsule from our HR and Safeguarding week

  • Transitional safeguarding

Both days welcomed guest speaker sessions to bring further learning, including: The Care Leavers Advisory Board from WSCC who came and explained their offer to young people and what groups and services they offer, a WSCC social worker who led a discussion on the asylum process and substantive interviews, and the Neighbourhood Safer Communities Officer who shared on the subject of Contextual Safeguarding.
