This month, students and tutors took part in The Great Big Green Week, joining a national celebration focused on sustainability and environmental awareness. It was a valuable opportunity to explore green issues through discussion, creativity, and shared learning.
what is the great big green week?

The Great Big Green Week is the UK's largest celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature. Organised by The Climate Coalition, the week encourages people, schools, workplaces, and community groups to come together and take positive action for the environment. Activities held during the week can include nature walks, litter picks, tree planting, recycling projects, film screenings, workshops, community clean-ups, and creative projects such as poster making and art displays. The aim is to inspire people to make small changes that can have a positive impact on the planet while celebrating the efforts already taking place in local communities.
class activities
A couple of our classes at asphaleia training spent time learning about the week in one of their lessons. They began the session by watching a YouTube video titled The Big Green Week. The video introduced the purpose of the week and highlighted simple actions individuals and communities can take to support the environment.
After watching the video, students worked together to create posters. They used online images to illustrate key environmental messages and ideas discussed during the session. This activity encouraged creativity while reinforcing learning in a practical way.
Another tutor also supported The Great Big Green Week by showing a related video to his group. This helped extend the theme across different classes and ensured more students could engage with the message of sustainability.
