On 15th April 2026, staff accompanied nine students from the Equip and Work groups to Worthing Museum.
The visit began with a warm welcome from Gerry, Head of Exhibitions, and Anna, the museum’s Education Coordinator. They delivered an informative presentation about starting a career in the museum sector, outlining the wide range of roles available.
Entry‑level opportunities include retail and visitor‑service positions, while more specialist posts often require higher qualifications and specific training.
Following the presentation, Gerry and Anna guided the group through several of the museum’s galleries. Students explored displays covering fashion, archaeology, painting, sculpture, and many other areas of local history and creative practice.

The group remained engaged throughout, asking questions and showing genuine interest in the stories behind the objects. Several students with a strong interest in art were particularly drawn to the museum’s creative workshops and the open exhibition opportunities. These sparked conversations about how they might take part in future activities or develop their artistic skills further.
The visit was both enjoyable and educational, giving students valuable insight into Worthing’s cultural heritage and the potential career pathways within the museum and heritage sector. Based on the positive response from the group, we hope to arrange similar visits in the future to continue building their confidence, curiosity, and awareness of local opportunities.
