Recently, we were delighted to welcome an outreach worker from Brighton’s Sexual Health and Contraception Service (SHAC), to Liverpool Gardens. They visited our site to deliver an introductory session for staff, offering insights into their team’s work and the specialist sexual health support available to the young people we serve.
Staff from across our training centre and supported houses were invited to join the session either in person or via Microsoft Teams. It proved to be an engaging and informative event, giving colleagues a clearer understanding of the services provided by SHAC and how these can complement our own support offer.

The outreach worker highlighted the wide range of free and confidential services that SHAC provides to people across Brighton and Hove. SHAC is an NHS service offering STI and HIV testing, treatment, contraception, PrEP, PEP, pregnancy advice, and home testing kits, alongside specialist clinics for young people and LGBTQ+ communities. The service operates across multiple locations in the city—SHAC East, Central, and West—ensuring accessible support for everyone who needs it.
Staff particularly valued gaining an understanding of how the clinic can work in partnership with us to support young people navigating sexual health concerns, relationships, consent, and emotional wellbeing. The outreach worker also shared information on accessing free condoms through the C-Card scheme, how to refer young people for testing or contraception, and the clinic’s commitment to being a safe and inclusive space for all.
We are excited about the opportunity to build on this connection and look forward to collaborating further with the SHAC team. Working together will help ensure that the young people we support receive holistic, informed, and accessible sexual health guidance whenever they need it.
