news from our care services

In June, one of our young people turned 18 and moved into independence in his own flat. Staff and young people made a goodbye dinner- they requested spaghetti bolognaise and sat and ate together at the table, reminiscing about the times this young person has had in our services. He was given a goodbye card, which staff and young people wrote positive messages in.

This young person has been with asphaleia for 18 months, and when originally placed with us he struggled significantly with substance misuse and mental health concerns. He has come so far in his journey with asphaleia and has grown and matured into a lovely young man.

engaging with education

One young person had refused to engage with education or services since he came to us due to his social anxiety. Now he has taken the step to complete a distance learning programme with asphaleia training and has studied maths, English and employability skills.

healthy relationships with SAFE

Following on from our SAFE introductions in May, one young person at one of our houses has been supported to engage with safe services around healthy relationships. The young person has fed back that he feels supported at the placement from staff and feels he is able to share his worries and concerns.

laptops for two students

Staff have liaised with the social worker's of two young people who are engaging at the asphaleia training centre regarding these young people getting laptops. Both young people now have laptops and one of them gave this feedback; "this has really helped with my distance learning at the centre, although there are too many parental controls on there."

keeping things clean

Staff at one of our houses have been supporting young people to keep to a routine with cleaning their rooms and communal areas. It has been a challenge to get the young people to wash up after themselves and keep their rooms in a healthy state but with weeks of direct support they are now taking it in turns to complete chores and are keeping their rooms clean. Young person feedback: "I never used to make my bed in the morning because I didn't see the point, but now I wake up everyday and make my bed after my shower. This is to set me up for the day ahead."
