what is on track study?

On Track Study is an education programme for 16-18 year olds wishing to improve their English skills and understanding of life and learning in the UK.

 

It offers recognised English and maths qualifications, personal and social development, community connections, careers education, and awareness of UK culture and British values. 

 

Students will develop essential skills for life and learning, including English, numeracy, rights and responsibilities, confidence building, resilience and understanding how to stay safe and be healthy.

  

The programme runs from September to July every year, with opportunities to start throughout the year. 

who is it for and where is it delivered?

On Track Study is for 16 – 18 year olds wishing to learn the basics of English and maths, and prepare for higher level study. It is suitable for students with limited experiences of education. There is no minimum entry requirement, and we welcome those with no or very low English and people with additional literacy and learning needs.

 

You could be eligible to join our On Track Study programme if you:

  • Are 16-18 years-old (16-24 if you have an EHCP)

  • Live in West Sussex

  • Are not currently studying at college

  • Are not working, or if you are working part-time

  • Need to learn the basics of English and maths at entry level 2 or below (based on prior qualifications and assessment during enrolment)

On Track Study is run at our dedicated training centre in Worthing town centre and includes some off-site activities in the local community.

programme content

On Track Study includes:

 

  • Accredited functional skills qualifications in English and maths at entry level 1 and 2

  • Full-time programmes of study

  • Life and living skills to help you live independently, stay safe and healthy and connect with your community

  • Introduction to careers, including workplace visits and guest speakers

  • Drama workshops and Arts Award run in partnership Chichester Festival Theatre

  • Drop-in information and advice on-site from Refugee Council and health professionals

  • Next steps planning and help to prepare for higher level study at college

  • Pastoral and enrichment activities, such as breakfast and lunch clubs, holiday programmes, sports, wellbeing workshops, trauma-informed support

  • Community participation and student voice opportunities, e.g. community projects, student forums and Young People Ambassador scheme
