what is the summer study programme?
The summer study programme is a 4-week programme for 16–18-year-olds wishing to continue their English and maths studies throughout the summer. It is ideal for those wanting help to prepare for their next steps into further education or work, or for those with English as a second language.

The summer study programme is open to young people aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31/8/25, and who are not already enrolled in education elsewhere. They must have permission to study in the UK. It is open to current asphaleia students and to new students.

Students must be willing and able to attend the full 4-week programme. The programme will run for 4 weeks from the week of 4th August 2025.
​
Classes will be held at asphaleia’s learning centre in central Worthing, and some activities may take place off-site in the local community. Students will attend 2-3 days per week, depending on their individual learning plan.

The programme will include class-based study, workshops and off-site activities, covering:

English speaking, reading, writing and numeracy skills

Personal, social and employability skills

Community, culture and arts activities

Careers information and advice

English and/or maths functional skills exams, dependent on starting point/progress

how to apply
Prospective new students should contact training@asphaleia.co.uk to register interest and request an application form. The deadline for applications is 14th July 2025. Offers and invitations to assessment days will be sent in July 2025.
Current asphaleia students do not need to submit a separate application for the summer study programme. They will be supported by staff to confirm if they want to accept an offer of a place.
Places are limited. Priority will be given to eligible students in the following order:

Those already enrolled at asphaleia on 14th July 2025.

Those who have applied for a place to start at asphaleia in September 2025, as of 14th July 2025.

Those who do not have a destination confirmed for September 2025, as of 14th July 2025.

All other eligible students in date order of application.
We reserve the right to withdraw an offer if a student does not attend in the first week.
