The Exceptional People in Care Awards are a chance to recognise the talents, achievements and skills of the young people in care, kinship care and the adults who work with them. The awards have been running since 2011,
designed each year by young people from the Children in Care Council (CICC) and the Care Leavers Forum in West Sussex.
Young people can be nominated for Big Hearts, Big Talents, Big Strength, and Big
Thinkers. There are also nominations for Best Supporting Adult, Best Foster Carer, Best Foster Sibling and Volunteering in the Community.
We are delighted to share that a young person in one of our supported accommodation services was nominated for the Big Thinkers EPIC award!

My friend and I, arrived at the venue by train and my social worker picked us up from the train station. As expected, there were lots of people there, it was a big event because of the Epic Awards.
We had our own table and seats, and one of the first things we did was take a fun photo at the Photo Booth they had set up. I even wore a wig for the picture, which made it even more memorable! After that, we sat down and got comfortable as the award ceremony began.

The host started announcing the nominees for the Epic Awards, which were divided into different categories. I was nominated for the Big Thinker award. When they announced my name, I felt a mix of excitement and shyness it was a little overwhelming but in a good way. I went up to receive my award, along with a certificate and some lovely gifts. It felt amazing to be recognised.
Once the ceremony ended, it was time for lunch. There was a wide variety of food available, but I only had some cake. Those who had received awards were also given sweets, which was a nice touch. After that, there was a giveaway for everyone, which added to the fun of the day. When I got home, I opened my gifts and felt so happy and proud. Winning an Epic Award was such a special moment - I’ll never forget it.
