asphaleia training was pleased to welcome Emily, Claire and Jo from the Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SPFT) for an engaging careers session with our Equip and Work group students. SPFT is a major mental health trust providing care across the South East, and the team introduced students to the wide range of clinical and non‑clinical career opportunities available within the NHS.

The team shared insights into roles such as psychology, nursing, occupational therapy, finance, administration and many others. They also highlighted the Trust’s commitment to “delivering great care and improving outcomes together” and explained the different pathways young people can take, including apprenticeships, T‑Levels, work experience and Employer Encounter Events.
Students took part in a Q&A session, asking thoughtful questions about qualifications, day‑to‑day responsibilities and what employers look for in applicants. The team also delivered an entertaining and informative interview role‑play, demonstrating how not to present yourself at an interview. This humerous scenario helped students understand common mistakes and sparked discussion about good interview practice.

The careers education visit was fun, inspiring and practical, giving learners a clearer understanding of the many routes into NHS careers and the support available to help them take their next steps. We are grateful to Emily, Claire and Jo for their time and such helpful employability information for our students.
The students were also informed of a work experience opportunity they can apply to do during the summer break, which a couple of our students were interested in and will be supported to apply to, if they wish.
