Each month, asphaleia's HR department sends an email to all staff celebrating achievements, sending organisational news and reminders, and sharing a wellbeing tip. The latest email was about that thing we can all spend a lot of time thinking about, buying, and preparing... food!

Wellbeing in the workplace tip: eating a balanced diet - sounds obvious….but it's easy to let good habits slip

Eating a healthy, balanced diet is an important part of maintaining good health and does influence how you feel. Whilst there has always been a focus on eating ‘5 a day’ – there is so much more to consider when managing a balanced diet.

Some key advice from the NHS on maintaining a healthy diet:

  • base meals on higher fibre starchy foods like potatoes, bread, rice or pasta

  • have some dairy or dairy alternatives (such as soya drinks)

  • eat some beans, pulses, fish, eggs, meat and other protein

  • choose unsaturated oils and spreads, and eat them in small amounts

  • drink plenty of fluids (at least 6 to 8 glasses a day)

Looking after your mental health during the coronavirus outbreak

We understand that outbreak of the coronavirus can be worrying and also affect our mental health. The concern over the impact of this illness can trigger anxiety and depression. Self-isolation alone can also make us more susceptible to anxious thoughts and low moods. Of course, it’s important to keep up to date with news, however, there are many things we can do to support each other and manage our own wellbeing during such times.
